Fugitive convict arrested after 20 years

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Friday (January 28) arrested a death-row convict from Akbarshah area of Chattogram on charge of killing a man named Jane Alam.

The arrestee is known as Syed Ahmed, 60, hailed from Lohagar of Amirabad in Chattogram.

RAB-7 commander lieutenant colonel M A Yusuf said, Syed Ahmed remained fugitive for 20 years after he was sentenced to death in the case in 2001.

RAB said, the victim Jane Alam was murdered in November 2001 centering a land dispute. Later, the convicted took two fake national identity cards changing his name.
