Gaibandha-5 by-polls on Jan 4

The Election Commission (EC) has announced that re-election will be held in Gaibandha-5 constituency on January 4 next year.

The decision was made at a meeting at the commission office in the capital’s Agargaon on Tuesday (December 6) morning.

“The voting will be held in Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and the poll booths will have CCTV cameras installed,” Election Commission Secretary Jahangir Alam said.

On October 12, the Election Commission suspended the by-election to the Gaibandha-5 parliamentary seat amid widespread allegations of vote rigging and voter intimidation.
