Jayawardene made SSC chairman

Former Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene has been appointed as chairman of the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC).

A few days ago, Jayawardene faced police scrutinize following a complaint by the former sports minister. 

After getting rid of that allegation, he has got a big responsibility this time. 

Mahela Jayawardene made his first-class cricket debut at the age of just 17 from SSC. It was here that he identified himself and took a place in the national team. This time he got a chance to take his level into a higher place. 

Samantha Dodanwela opted to step down to give way to his younger colleague Mahela Jayawardena. SSC, a club with a history of over 12 decades has produced some outstanding cricketers who have represented the National team.

Jayawardene was made SSC chairman during their Annual General Meeting held at the club premises last Tuesday.

Sinhalese Cricket Club is the most successful domestic cricket team in Sri Lanka. The club has won the Premier League trophy 32 times so far. SSC became champion in the last 2017-18 season.

Mahela scored 2921 runs in SSC in his club career with an average of 74.89. Jayawardene expressed hope to work for the development of the club after taking charge as the chairman of SSC.
