Probe begins over Maradona’s death

Although Diego Maradona has died a natural death, his lawyer Matias Morla accused the doctors of negligence. 

He said that he would request a full investigation. It was not immediately clear if Morla took any action. 

However, the officials of the Argentine judiciary have started an investigation into the death of the Argentine football great. A search of his personal physician’s property was ordered on Sunday (November 29), according to a local prosecutors’ office.

Maradona died of cardiac arrest last Wednesday at the age of 60. According to a statement from the prosecutor’s office, the investigation was initiated at the request of prosecutors in San Isidro, a suburb of Buenos Aires, and was signed by a local judge.

Statements from relatives and friends were taken from Maradona on Saturday for the sake of investigation. Investigators have called for a search of home and office of Leopoldo Luque, his personal physician.

The prosecutor’s office could not immediately be reached for comment. Last Thursday, Maradona’s lawyer Morla complained that doctors had delayed providing emergency services. It took more than half an hour for the ambulance to arrive, it was criminal stupidity.
 
However, Luque denied the allegations, saying the ambulance arrived within 12 minutes. “They have taken all the clinical files,” he said, trying his best to save Maradona. There was nothing wrong with the treatment.
 
Luque added that Maradona was a complex patient and had been evicted by doctors more than once. “Diego did what he wanted. He needed help. But he had no choice,” said the football great’s personal doctor.
