West Indies to maintain 7-day quarantine in Bangladesh

West Indies delegation member Akshay Mansingh expressed his hope of touring the Caribbean team to Bangladesh in January. He also expressed his satisfaction after inspecting the bio-secure bubble related to the Covid-19 defence here.

At the same time, the official said, the vising team will maintain quarantine for seven days after touching down in Bangladesh. They will be able to start practicing among themselves after three days. Coronavirus will be tested three times at this time.

Caribbean cricketers will be able to start the practice using all the facilities provided by Bangladesh if they all find negative for three times.

Paul Sloway, Windies’ security manager, has no complaints about security. From previous experience, he claimed that the BCB has the infrastructure and capacity to meet all the needs of hosting any international series.

The two-member delegation of the Windies Cricket Board on Saturday arrived in Dhaka. They inspected the proposed venues and all other facilities. They also visited BKSP, all infrastructures of Chattogram and Dhaka stadiums, team hotels and hospitals.

The West Indies are scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh at the beginning of the new year. ICC and Cricket Windies medical team member Akshay Mansingh expressed his satisfaction with all the facilities in Bangladesh.

He told reporters in front of the Academy building in Mirpur that the descriptions of the protocols given to us by the BCB were a matter of deep thought. Since they have had three tournaments before touring our team and one is currently running, so they are accustomed. We are satisfied with what we had seen in Dhaka and Chattogram.

“The facilities here are great, the Covid protocol is very clear and perfect. The hospitals and hotels we had visited, their conduct and work are in line with the international standards recommended for Covid-19. So, we are satisfied in terms of health. Now we have to present the report of our observations to the Board of Directors of Cricket West Indies. But we are very confident that what we had seen is no less organized than anywhere else in the world. So far we are very happy,” the official said.

The visitors are expected to play three Tests, one ODI and two T20Is. However, it was heard that the two boards are thinking of reducing a test. That is why the schedule of the tour has not been finalised, said Akshay.

However, the guests have no objection to staying in the quarantine for seven days in Bangladesh, he confirmed. Not just quarantine, Covid test results will need negative. At least one negative certificate is required before coming here. Besides, the results of the three tests here must be negative. The whole process will take seven days.

The cricketers will stay in the hotel room for the first three days of the quarantine. The second test will be conducted after the third day. If it finds negative, they will start practicing inside their squad. No one else will be allowed to join with them. Players will be able to get in touch with others after seven days. The session with the net players of Bangladesh will start then.

Security representative Paul Sloway said, “I came to Bangladesh for the 2016 Youth World Cup. I am aware of the situation here. I am glad that the security plans and protocols presented to us in what we had seen were very satisfactory. I have no doubt that if those plans are implemented as they are written and discussed, no untoward incidents will occur.”

Jalal Yunus, director of the BCB and chairman of the media department, said he was hopeful the series would be held on time. They will report back to the country. That will be looked into by the Windies Cricket Board. Hopefully, everything will be fine and they will tour by mid-January.
