Walton Mymensingh Premier League (MPL) is set to kick off to revive the cricket tradition of Mymensingh. Walton, a sports-friendly organisation, has sponsored the first-ever tournament. The tournament is being organized with national and local cricketers.

The introduction and jersey logos of the teams were unveiled at the Mukul Niketan High School Hallroom in Mymensingh on Friday (December 11). Player draft was also held. Former national team captain Habibul Bashar Sumon unveiled the logo.

Walton’s First Senior Additional Director Milton Ahmed and Tournament Chairman Maruf Khan Pathan were present on the occasion.

The tournament, organized by Mymensingh Masters Cricket Association (MMCA), will start on December 21. All the matches of the five-day tournament will be played at the Circuit House ground. Mujib Centenary Special will be organized in a new format of 100 balls.

 

The teams are Mymensingh Tiger, Mymensingh Eagle, Mymensingh Riders, Mymensingh Sixers, Mymensingh Warriors and Mymensingh Thunder. 

Six teams will take part in two groups. After the group stage match, the semi-final will be played on December 24 and the final on December 25. There will be nine matches in the competition. Two semi-finals and one final will be broadcast on T Sports Channel.

Six teams have selected their respective squad through the draft. Each team will have two national stars. Besides, 65 local cricketers got the team.

Mahmudullah Riyad of Mymensingh, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, Shuvagata Hom and Rakibul Hasan are playing in the tournament. Former captains Mohammad Ashraful, Nasir Hossain, Ilias Sunny and Arafat Sunny will also come from Dhaka.

Besides, Akbar Ali, captain of the Youth World Cup-winning team, Tanjid Hasan Tamim, Parvez Hossain Emon and Touhid Hridoy, members of the World Cup-winning team, will participate in the tournament.
