The Bangladesh national cricket team returned to the field on Sunday (January 10), the day the West Indies cricket team arrive in Dhaka.

On the day, 24 cricketers called up for the preliminary squad for the Windies series joined the practice. Except for batting consultant John Lewis, all the coaching staff of the national team also attended the practice.

After long days, the cricketers have returned to the Mirpur stadium and practiced hard in batting, bowling and fielding. Nazmul Hossain Shant is very happy to be back on the field, saying “Much more thrilled. Many days later we all rejoined the national camp together. We had a very good practice session and enjoyed it.”

Shakib Al Hasan was seen in the national team practice for the first time since the ICC ban. That’s why the world’s best all-rounder was the centre of all joys in the practice. Shakib started his practice with bowling. He bowled against Tamim for about 40 minutes on the indoor wicket. He worked with flights. Then he spent an hour indoors batting. Coach Russell Domingo observed him from the side. The South African coach amended him once or twice.

The Bangladesh and West Indies series is scheduled to start with ODIs on January 20. Bangladesh will play three ODIs for the 2023 World Cup Super League and two Tests for the Test Championship. After four consecutive days of practice, both the sides will lock horns 50-over warm-up matches on January 14 and 16 at BKSP.

Nazmul believes that adequate preparations will be made before landing in the main competition. The left-arm batsman said, “We are going play international cricket after almost a year (10 months). But I think the preparation is good. Because we have recently played a tournament, the Presidents Cup. In today’s practice we discussed those issues. We will also have a preparation match. I don’t think there will be too many problems if we can do the matches well.”

Bangladesh last played international cricket against Zimbabwe in March. Since cricket stopped due to the coronavirus pandemic. Bangladesh are returning to international cricket after 313 days.
