There happened a strange incident at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, Mirpur which was absolutely unexpected and amazing.
Left-arm pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman finished his over with 5 balls. However, he had nothing to do as umpire called for the end of the over.
The incident took place when Mustafizur was bowling the 40th over. After bowling two legal deliveries, the seamer bowled a no-ball and the umpire signaled a free hit. The next delivery was again called a no-ball. That means, he had bowled two legal deliveries until that point. But the umpire (Gazi Sohel) called the over end, making it a five-ball over.
After that over, Mustafiz was seen on the field all the time. So, there was no suspicion of injury. Later, the official scorer of BCB said it was a mistake made by the umpire. The umpire (Gazi Sohel) couldn’t keep track of the legal deliveries because of two consecutive free hits.
Such incidents are not first time in the cricket. It was seen to be 5-ball over in international matches before.
However, all the incidents were mistakes by the umpires. In 2012, Lasith Malinga bowled five balls in the 36th over of the India-Sri Lanka match. In the 2016 BPL, Sylhet Sixers fast bowler Kamrul Islam Rabbi bowled 7 balls in an over.
