Cricketer Sabbir Rahman has been accused of racism, abuse and throwing bricks to another cricket during Dhaka Premier League (DPL).

He allegedly committed the abuse to Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club’s spinner Elias Sunny.

Sheikh Jamal has already submitted a written complaint against Sabbir in this connection.

Elias Sunny told risingbd, “They had a club game against us on June 13. Ever since I had started batting, he had been using vulgar language to me. Sledging is on the cricket field. But abusing ... that issue was resolved on the field.”

However, it was not over there, Sunny added, “When I was fielding at BKSP today, he himself came forward and created trouble again. Just when he got off the bus and started calling me Kailya (black), Kailya (black). My relationship with him is not so deep as to say so. He has been playing cricket for a long time and I am also playing cricket. But I never heard such a call from his mouth. Then he threw bricks at me. I did not get hurt, but I had to be careful because I was fielding. I complain to the umpire and the match referee. They stopped the game for 2-3 minutes. They scolded Sabbir and removed him from there.”

Elias Sunny claims that Sabbir can do this from previous anger. They lost the match that day. At the same time, Elias got into an argument with Sunny. In a letter to Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM), Sheikh Jamal wrote, “During the match between Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited and Old DOHS Sports Club, Sheikh Jamal’s player Mohammad Elias Sunny was hit by Legends of Rupganj player Sabbir Rahman Rumman from outside the field without any reason. He used abusive language and made racism comment against Elias Sunny. He called him as Kailya (black). As a professional cricketer, such behavior is not only indecent but also a punishable offence.”

However, Sabbir has denied the allegations brought against him. He said, “I do not know anything about it. My relationship with him is good. I have no need to do this. This did not happen to me. Many call her Kailya (black). I also have such a name. All this happens among the players. But what is there to complain with that?”
