Mushfiq returns home from Zimbabwe as parents test Covid-19 positive

Skipping ODIs and T20 international series, Bangladesh wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim is returning home from Zimbabwe on hearing the news that his parents tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19).

Mushfiq is returning home from Zimbabwe to stand beside his father Mahbub Habib and mother Rahim Khatun during their difficult time.

Akram Khan, the director of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and also Chairman of BCB's cricket operations committee, told risingbd on Wednesday (July 14) that: “Mushfiq himself phoned us and confirmed that his parents are infected with the coronavirus. That’s why, Mushfiq has sought permission from BCB for his return. BCB asked him to return home from Zimbabwe. He will return home by today or tomorrow.”

Another source from the BCB said, “Mushfiq’s parents are being brought to Dhaka from Bogura for better treatment.”

BCB is yet to take a decision on sending another cricketer from Dhaka to Zimbabwe as Mushfiq’s replacement.

Confirming Mushfiq’s return, BCB’s Senior Media Manager Rabid Imam also said, “Mushfiq will miss Bangladesh’s three ODIs against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club on 16, 18, and 20 July and also a T20 international series”.
