Changes coming in BCB board of directors!

Though the elections of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are knocking at the door, there is no excitement over the issue. There is a big reason behind the lack of enthusiasm surrounding the election of the country’s wealthiest sports board that lack of new leadership.

The incumbent president Nazmul Hasan Papon would be re-elected chief of the board once again as nobody is coming to challenge him in the polls.

He had won two previous elections uncontested and sat in the hot seat. If all goes well, Nazmul Hasan Papon is going to be the BCB president again.

However, this time he is proceeding differently with the board of directors. He has already announced not arrange vote with the panel. He wants to add new directors by removing a few from the current board of directors. New leadership could come in five to six director positions.

There are 25 posts in the board of directors of BCB including president and vice-president. There is post vacant currently. Except that, there are 24 directors in the remaining 24 posts. It is certain that 19 directors including Nazmul Hasan Papon will be in the next committee. The rest of the posts are going to be changed.

Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan, who was named in the casino case, is expected to be dropped from the board of directors. He was also not given a councillorship from Mohammedan Sporting Club. Besides, the omission of Shawkat Aziz Russell is also somehow certain. Tanjil Chowdhury was on the board of the BCB for the current and last term. Only time will say whether Tanjil Chowdhury, who has been lauded for successfully conducting school cricket tournaments across the country, will be seen on the board again. However, this time he is not getting the support of Nazmul Hasan! There are rumors that he is preparing for the elections as a director.

Besides, sports organizer Fahim Sinha is replacing to his late father Afzalur Rahman Sinha’s post. Hanif Bhuiyan and Syed Ashfaqul Islam Titu are on the list to be dropped from the current board of directors. In their places, Tanvir Ahmed Titu and Iftekhar Mithu can be seen as the new directors. Besides, Wabed Nizam, who got the councillorship from Shinepukur Cricket Club, and Salauddin Chowdhury, who came from Gazi Group Cricketers, are also coming to the board.

Meanwhile, the BCB election commission released the draft list of 171 councilors on Wednesday (September 22). Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan has lost the councillorship from the present board of directors.

The other councillors are Nazmul Hasan Papon (Abahani Limited), Naimur Rahman Durjoy (Manikganj District Sports Association), Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel (Sylhet Divisional Sports Association), Akram Khan (Chattogram Divisional Sports Association), AJM Nasir (Chattogram District Sports Organization), Kazi Inam Ahmed (Jashore District Sports Organization), Alamgir Khan (Barishal Divisional Sports Association), Sheikh Sohel (Khulna Divisional Sports Association), Saiful Alam Swapan Chowdhury (Pabna District Sports Association), Hanif Bhuiyan (Rapid Foundation) ;
