Bangladesh thrash PNG by 84 runs, confirm Super 12 stage

Papua New Guinea got bundled out for 97, as Bangladesh recorded a comprehensive 84-run win in the T20 World Cup 2021 Group Stage match at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Oman on Thursday (October 21).

Following the massive victory, Bangladesh confirmed the qualifier for the Super 12 from the First Round.

Chasing 182 for victory, Papua New Guinea were all out in 19.3 overs to give Bangladesh a record win.

Shakib al Hasan starred with the ball taking four wickets conceding just nine runs, while Saifuddin and Taskin Ahmed picked up two wickets each respectively.

Only skipper Kiplin Doriga (46) and Chad Soper (11) reached double-digit among the PNG batsmen.

Earlier, Bangladesh posted 181 for the loss of seven wickets in their stipulated 20 overs, Mahmudullah top-scoring with 50 runs off 37 balls.

Skipper Mahmudullah had won the toss and elected to bat first.
