Pakistan edge towards Chattogram Test winning

Pakistan openers Abid Ali and Abdullah Shafique dashed the home side's hopes of making a comeback in the Chattogram Test on Monday.

Abid, who made 133 in the first innings, finished day four unbeaten on 56 while Shafique became the fifth Pakistan player to score two fifties on Test debut.

He was unbeaten on 53 off 93 balls with six fours and a six. The pair had put on 146 for the opening stand in the first innings. It was only the second time Pakistan openers put on a century stand in both innings of a Test.

Earlier, Bangladesh set a 202-run target for Pakistan after getting bundled out for 157 in their second innings in the second session of the fourth day of the first Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

Liton Das made 59 runs to help the hosts add 118 to their score after resuming on 39-4 overnight. Shaheen Afridi who took two wickets in the session and finished with 5-32 while off-spinner Sajid Khan took 3-33.

Bangladesh had begun the session on 115-6, with Liton on 32 and Nurul Hasan, who came in as debutant Yasir Ali’s concussion substitute in the first session, not out on 0.

The pair seemed to be comfortable at the middle and runs were coming smoothly after the Lunch break before Nurul chipped the ball to long-on off Sajid to depart for 15.

Liton returned to the dressing room after he got trapped leg before wicket by Shaheen.

Bangladesh lost their last two wickets without adding another run as Abu Jayed and Taijul Islam departed for ducks.
