Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will play the first Test against Sri Lanka, starting May 15 in Chattogram.

Bangladesh Test skipper Mominul Haque confirmed this at a press conference on Saturday.

Mominul said, “It looks good (Shakib’s batting). He did well, I think he will play. Inshaallah”.

Shakib in fact batted for the first time after the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) last month. But he showed no sign of fatigue when he was facing off the pacers and spinners in the net. In fact, he batted aggressively, which was enough to impress the head coach Russell Domingo, who was seen to applaud Shakib.

"From what I have seen, he batted really well. I think he will play," Momimul said. "The good thing about Shakis is that he is psychologically very strong. If he wants, he can play the game despite the adversities.

If Shakib plays tomorrow's, this will be his first Test in this year.

Shakib tested positive for COVID-19, ruling him out of the first Test against Sri Lanka.  He arrived in Bangladesh from the USA on 10 May and the results came out positive in the mandatory Covid test.

Later, Shakib tested Covid-19 negative on Friday. BCB hinted that Shakib would join the team on Friday evening and would participate in practice on Saturday morning.
