Kusal Mendis hospitalised after complaining of chest pain

Kusal Mendis has been hospitalised in Dhaka after he left the field complaining of chest pain minutes before lunch on the first day of the second and final game of the two-match Test series at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Monday (May 23).

Mendis looked in some discomfort as he lay down on the field in the 23rd over, before being tended to by the medical staff. He left the playing area holding his chest soon after.

Manzur Hossain Chowdhury, the BCB doctor, said that Mendis had to be taken to the hospital for "proper diagnosis and better management" of his condition.

According to Chowdhury, Mendis was suffering from dehydration leading into the match, which could be a reason behind his discomfort. He suspected gastritis as a possible reason for Mendis' discomfort. It is unclear at this stage how long he will be in the hospital, and on his participation in the Dhaka Test.

Mendis scored a solid half-century in the first innings in the Chattogram Test, followed by a quick 48 in the second stint, helping Sri Lanka draw the game._ESPNcricinfo
