Mominul decides to quit captaincy

Left-handed top-order batter Mominul Haque has decided to quit the captaincy of the Bangladesh Test team to keep the focus on improving batting performance.

He took the decision after a meeting with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon on Tuesday (May 31) evening.

The meeting was held at the residence of Papon in the capital’s Dhanmondi.

Mominul had been failing to impress both as a captain and as the batter which cast a shadow over his captaincy.

When asked what decision he had made to the BCB president, Mominul replied, “I said that I cannot contribute as a captain in the last few series. I do not think I can encourage the team at this time. I think it’s better to give responsibility to someone new. For now, I have said this. I revealed my decision, now it’s their turn, they know what to decide.”

He further said, “For now, I want to focus on batting, that’s good for me. There is a board meeting to be held very soon, they will decide there.”
