No way, Shakib must have to cancel the contract

A strong criticism has sparked against allrounder Shakib Al Hasan after he signed a contract with Betwinner News, one of the biggest online gambling portals of the world.

Nazmul Hassan Papon, President of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), said, “The board will take steps against the left-arm spinner after verifying the allegations through investigation. For this, it is being heard that the finalization of announcing Shakib as skipper of Twenty20 team has been deferred.

BCB Advisory Coach Nazmul Abedin Fahim said it should be made mandatory to seek board permission before signing such contract.

He told ‘Chanel24’, a private television channel, in an interview that as far we know Shakib did not get any permission to sign the contract. It should be mandatory to seek permission from the board before signing any contract. Someone at least comes and says that he/she wants to do that, then board will say its ok. Seeking permission from board will have to make mandatory. I think the board is responsible for this why it did not do that earlier. It should be done for everyone. I don’t know the technical issue in this case. Shakib certainly did everything after a well thought. If I mention the ethical side, as there is no tradition of betting here nationally, so it is necessary to show respect in this case.”

Saiduzzaman, sports editor of The Daily Kalerkantha, said, “The law exists in Bangladesh never allows contract with any gambling related institutes. So, BCB says Shakib cannot do that. Shakib has to come back from the contract because of the position the board has taken. The interesting matter will be, If Shakib does not return from the contract, what the board does, because the cricket culture of Bangladesh has become such thing that the bigger the player, the bigger the field. This is obviously a negative side of our cricket culture. If this is not stopped, maybe another player will contract with any gambling company. Discipline must be fixed.”
