Pele will return home, says daughter

One of Brazilian football superstar Pele’s daughters has said her father’s health is not at serious risk and he will return home after recovery from a respiratory infection.

Kely Arantes Nascimento told this to Pele’s fans on Sunday.

The 82-year-old has been hospitalized in Sao Paulo since Tuesday amid ongoing treatments for colon cancer.

Pele is sick, he is elderly, but at this point he is hospitalized for a lung infection. And when he gets better, he'll come home, she said.

Her sister, Flavia Arantes Nascimento, denied reports from the daily Folha de S.Paulo and ESPN Brazil that Pele was no longer responding to chemotherapy and was now receiving only ‘palliative care’.

Newspaper Folha de S.Paulo reported on Saturday that he was under palliative care after chemotherapy stopped having the expected results.
Pele's doctors have not confirmed that information and his daughter, Flavia Nascimento, said the report was wide of the mark.

One of the greatest footballers of all time, Pele had a tumour removed from his colon in September 2021 and has been receiving hospital care on a regular basis.
