10-member team to assist AG

Staff Correspondent: A 10-member team has been formed to assist the Attorney General (AG) for the review petition against the SC verdict over the 16th amendment of the constitution.

The team includes two additional attorney generals and eight deputy attorney generals.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam confirmed the news on Friday.

He said the team was formed a few days ago to assist in the review proceedings of the 16th constitutional amendment.

The government on October 11 received the full-text certified copy over cancellation of the 16th amendment.

As per rules, the review petition must be filed within a month of receiving the certified copy. So, the government will get time to seek review till November 11.

The apex court on August 1 released the full text of its verdict, scrapping the 16th amendment to the constitution that had given parliament the power to remove SC judges for misconduct or incapacity.
