'10.56 lakh Rohingyas registered so far'

Staff Correspondent: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said a total of 10.56 lakh Rohingyas have been registered so far biometrically.

The minister came up with the statement while opening the Passport Service Week-2018 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital on Saturday. Department of Immigration and Passport arranged the Service Week.

Home Boss said Rohingya registry activities are still running.

"When they flooded to Bangladesh from Mynmar, PM said let them enter Bangladesh. They will also get food if we can manage meals for our 16 crore people. Later, she asked us to register them (Rohingyas). We also took initiatives in this regard.  The registry process is running with combine assistance of passport office, BGB, Army and civil people," he added.

The minister also said though Rohingyas got shelter in Bangladesh, they will not be able to use passport for touring other countries.
