11,700 AIDS patients in country: Minister

Senior Correspondent: Health Minister Mohammad Nasim said that around 11,700 patients are now carrying HIV in Bangladesh.
The Minister made the disclosure while addressing a press conference at his secretariat in the capital on Monday.
He said that the about the rate of contagion is below 0.01 percent in Bangladesh.
Nasim also said that around one percent people have AIDS in the country. The country has now 11,700 patients with AIDS.
"So far, from 1989 to 2017, 5,586 people were identified. Moreover, 639 males, 213 females, 13 hijras and 63 Rohingyas have been newly infected with AIDS," he added.
Health Secretary Sirajul Haque Khan and Acting Secretary of Health Education and Family Welfare Department Fayez Ahmad and others attended the meeting.
