12 institutions get National Productivity Award

Economic Correspondent: The Industries Ministry has given the Fourth National Productivity and Quality Excellency Award–2016 among 12 industrial establishments for their outstanding contribution to the field of industry.

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu handed over the awards to the representatives of the selected industrial establishments as the chief guest at a programme at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital on Wednesday.

The minister said industry sector’s contribution to gross domestic product (GDP) has to be increased to 40 percent from the current 33 percent to attain the Vision 2021.

He attached importance on quality with production and underscored the need for more skilled work force and capable institutions.

Amu told the award winners that the recognition of good performance should be their inspiration and they should work with more enthusiasm to make the country a developed one.

In the programme, 12 institutions won the awards in five categories.

Premier Cement Mills Limited, Mercantile Bank Limited and RFL Plastics Limited won the award in Heavy Industry Category; Bengal Plastic International Limited, Pran Fruits Limited and Graphicpeople in Medium Industry Category; Rangpur Foundry Limited and Synthetic Evasive Co. Limited in Small Industry Category; and Academic Book House won the award in Micro Industry Category. Three other industries won the recognition in Government-own Industry Category. They are Carew and Company (Bangladesh) Limited, Eastern Cables Limited and Gazi Wires Limited.  

The minister distributed the trophies and certificates among the winners while Kamran T. Rahman, the president of Bangladesh Employers’ Federation was present with the Secretary of the Industry Ministry, Muhammad Abdullah, chairing it.
