13 injured in KU students-outsiders clash

Staff Correspondent, Khulna: At least 13 people have been injured in a clash between students and outsiders on the Khulna University (KU) campus.

The clash ensued over altercation during Senior Division Football League-2018 on Friday.

KU students held three outsiders and confined them in Khaja Hall of the university.

A huge number of police have been deployed at the spot to avoid any unwanted incident.

According to the university source, the two groups locked into a clash after an altercation as outsiders made derogatory comments to a student.

Then, agitated students set fire on several motorbikes of outsiders and held three from the spot, the source said.

Dr Sharif Hassan Limon, director of student affairs of the university, said, “Being informed, a discussion was made with students to keep them calm. The three outsiders will be handed over to police.”

Mentionable, Khulna District Sports Organisation took the ground in front of Khaja Hall on contractual basis for the football to be held since 12 to 20 October.

The tournament has been suspended after the clash.
