141 BNP, 3 AL aspirants fail EC scrutiny

Staff Correspondent: Nomination papers of 141 BNP and 3 AL aspirants have been cancelled across the country, according to sources at the Election Commission (EC).

The EC on Monday made the disclosure analyzing the information sent by the returning officers after the scrutiny of the nomination papers on December 2.

It is learnt that a total of 696 BNP candidates filed nominations against 300 seats out of which nominations of 141 BNP aspirants have been cancelled after scrutiny. At present, 555 aspirants have remained as valid candidate.

On the other hand, a total of 281 AL candidates filed nominations out of which three AL aspirants fail EC scrutiny. At present, the party has 278 valid candidates.

After scrutinizing nomination papers of 3,065 candidates across the country, the returning officers declared nomination papers of 2,279 candidates valid for the December 30 general elections and cancelled those of 786 candidates.
