1st phase upazila polls: Voting ends more or less peacefully

Staff Correspondent: Election Commission (EC) secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said that voting in 78 upazilas of 1st phase ended more or less peacefully.

He came up with the statement while a press briefing at the media centre of Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon on Sunday afternoon, minutes after ending vote in the upazilas.

EC secretary said, “Voting at 28 centres out of 5, 847 was suspended on allegation of indiscipline. The voting will be held in the centres later. Without the centres, voting ended more or less peacefully in all other centres. Voting for second phase polls will be held on March 18. I hope, all phases of elections would be held fairly.”

When asked about voter presence, he said, “We have yet not been known over voter presence. So, we could say nothing at this moment. Counting has begun. After counting, we can tell about the percentage of vote cast.”
