2 Bangladeshis killed in Christchurch attack: state minister

Staff Correspondent: State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam has confirmed that two Bangladeshi citizens were killed in the attack on two mosques in New Zealand’s Christchurch.

The state minister made the disclosure while addressing a program of Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) in the capital on Saturday.

At least 49 people were killed after a gunman opened fire on two mosques in Christchurch on Friday. Many others were injured. Later, Bangladesh Honorary Consul in Auckland Shafiqur Rahman Bhuiyan had said that three Bangladeshi nationals had been killed in the massacre.

State Minister Shahriar Alam said that two Bangladeshi were killed not three. The number of victims were mentioned following the initial reports from the expatriates there. Now the toll had been revised down to two. The deceased are dentified as Dr Abdus Saman and Hosne Ara Farid (House wife).

Abdus Samad’s wife Sanjida Akter was found alive, he said.

The state minister also said that three Bangladeshis remained missing since the attack. They are- Mozammel Haque, Zakaria and Shaon.
