2 killed in Rangpur 'gunfight'

Staff Correspondent, Rangpur: Two persons were killed in a 'gunfight' with police at Lengti Chhora bridge area on Rangpur-Sayedpur highway of the district's Taraganj upazila early Wednesday.

 

The deceased were identified as Moshiur Rahman, 37, and Bijoy Chandra Domasu, 28,. They were members of an inter-district robber gang, police claimed.

 


Abdul Latif, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Taraganj Police Station, confirmed the news.

 

He said, "A gang of robbers were taking preparation for robbery at the area. Police chased them as they tried to flee the scene after sensing the presence of patrol police. At one stage, they fired at law enforcers. Police also fired on them for self-defence, leaving the two dead.

 

They were accused in several cases filed in different police stations, the OC added.

 

The bodies were kept at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital morgue, he said.
