20 fishermen missing after 2 trawlers capsize in Bay

Barguna Correspondent:  At least 20 fishermen were missing after two trawlers capsized in the Bay of Bengal.

According to sources, FB Torikul-1 capsized around 9.00am near Narikelbaria area in the Bay, and later stormy winds caused fishing trawler FB Orko to capsize in the Chalna area of the Bay of Bengal at noon.

Of the missing 14 were identified.

Owner of FB Orko Ashutosh Chandro said FB Orko was carrying 19 fishermen and all are missing.

The fishermen were hailing from different villages under Baliatali union of Barguna sadar upazila.

Of the missing some were identified as Dulal Majhi, Mintu, Ayub Ali, Siddik, Nasir, Rubel, Solaiman, Rahat, Monir, Shafik, Hakim, Kashem and Motaleb.

Earlier on Saturday a trawler named FB Tarikul-1 capsized near Narikelbaria area in the Bay while carrying 17 fishermen. The other fishermen rescued 16 fishermen but cook of the trawler Amirul is still missing. Barguna district fishing trawlers owners association said the rescue operation is going on to salvage the missing.
