'20,500 headmaster posts vacant in primary schools'

Parliament Correspondent: A total of 20,516 posts of headmasters are vacant in primary schools across the country, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid told parliament.

The minister made the disclosure while replying to a question at the National Parliament on Thursday.

He said a process is underway for recruiting teachers against the vacant posts in the secondary schools.

In reply to a question of M Abdul Latif MP, Nurul Islam Nahid also said the government would appoint teachers against the vacant post for the subjects of Bangla, English, Mathematics, Social Science, religion of Islam, Geography, Physical Science, Zoology, Commerce, Physical Education, Fine Arts and Agriculture Education.

The government has a plan to establish general or specialised universities in every district through public-private initiatives, he added.
