234 candidates appeal on 2nd day

Staff Correspondent: A total of 234 candidates have filed appeal petitions with the Election Commission (EC) against the decision of nomination rejection, rising the total appeal petitioners to 318.

The commission received appeal petitions from 9:00am to 5:00pm at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon on Tuesday.

12 candidates of Barisal, 15 of Sylhet, 16 of Mymensingh, 27 of Rangpur, 68 of Dhaka, 22 of Rajshahi, 56 of Chattogram, 18 of Khulna.

Earlier on Monday, 84 candidates appealed to get their nominations.

The last date of submission nomination papers was December 02. A total of 3,065 nomination papers were submitted to the offices of Returning Offices across the country. But 786 nominations were cancelled during scrutinising. The candidates whose nominations were cancelled can file appeals till Wednesday.

The EC will dissolve the appeals through hearing on December 06, 07 and 08, said EC secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed.

The last day of candidature withdrawal is December 09. The EC will distribute symbols for candidates on December 10.

The voting of the 11th general election is scheduled to be held on December 30.
