2nd submarine cable station starts functioning at Kuakata

Staff Correspondent: The second submarine cable station started functioning from Kuakata in Patuakhali on Sunday.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the cable station and its activities through video conferencing from her official residence Ganabhaban at 11:00am.

Meanwhile, the premier also inaugurated Administrative Building at Rangabali, Londa Bridge and an extended building of Kalapara Upazila.

Local MP (Patuakhali-4 Constituency) Mahbubur Rahman Talukder, Deputy Commissioner of Patuakhali Dr Masumur Rahman Khan, Posts and Telecommunications secretary Shaym Sundar Shikder, Barisal Range DIG Shahfiqul Islam BPM, Divisional Commissioner Shahid Uddin Mannan and other attended the function.

Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Ltd (BSCCL) managing director, Md Manwar Hossain said, "There is a submarine cable landing station at Cox's Bazar. We are getting 250 Gbps bandwidth from the first submarine cable."

"Local telecom companies will have not to buy bandwidth from foreign companies as the second submarine cable landing station has been launched. Bangladesh will get a scope to earn huge amount of money exporting bandwidth. Besides, people of southern region of the country including Patuakhali, Barisal, Jessore, Khulna, Faridpur will get bandwidth at cheap rate", he said.
