3 ‘Rohingya kidnappers’ killed in Teknaf gunfight

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: Three suspected Rohingya kidnappers were killed in a 'gunfight' with police in hilly area of Leda camp in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar early Friday.

The deceased were identified Shamsu Alam, 35, son of Nur Mohammad, Nur Alam, 21, son of Moktar Ahmed and Mohammad Habib, 20, son of Azizur Rahman.

Three policemen also received injuries during the gunfight. They are- Constable Soikot Borua, Mohammad Arshedul and Mohammad Sekandar.

Prodip Kumar Das, Officer-in-Charge of Teknaf police station said, a gang of kidnappers kidnapped a three years old kid few day ago and demanded Tk5 lakh ransom. Following the abduction, police conducted a drive in the area early Friday.

Sensing the presence of police, kidnappers opened fire aiming police. In reply, police also opened fire. Later, three bullet hit people and the abducted kid were rescued.

The injured were sent to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where duty doctor declared the three people dead.

Three local guns, eight rounds of bullets and 11 cases of bullets were recovered from the spot.
