3 VNSC teachers suspended, classes to resume Sunday

Staff Correspondent: As per the instruction given by the education ministry, the governing body of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College (VNSC) on Wednesday suspended the three accused teachers including its acting principal Nazneen Ferdous over the suicide of class nine student Aritree Adhikary.

The body also rescheduled the suspended exams of today (December 5) and tomorrow (December 6) to December 7 and 11 respectively and said that the classes will resume from Sunday.

Chairman of the school’s governing body Golam Ashraf Talukder confirmed this to risingbd.com.

“Three teachers including the acting principal of the school have been suspended over the incident in an emergency meeting of the governing body to implement the decision of the education ministry. All concerned will be informed about the decision by sending letters,” Ashraf Talukder said.

Aritree Adhikary, a ninth grader, was found hanging from the ceiling of her home in the capital's Shantinagar on Monday (December 3) hours after she and her parents were allegedly insulted by some teachers of the school.

The death and the subsequent agitation, joined by parents, rocked the 66-year-old institute and prompted the education ministry and the school authorities to form two separate probe committees.

Besides, the High Court directed the education secretary to form another five-member committee headed by an additional secretary of the ministry to look into the matter.
