3 crushed under train at Sitakunda

Staff Correspondent, Chattogram: Three people including a man and his daughter, were killed as a train’s engine compartment crashed into them in Madambibir hat area of Bhatiari union under Sitakunda upazila of the district.

The deceased were identified as Abul Kashem, 45, his one-year-old daughter Fatema and a worker named Shahidul Islam, 50.

Local sources said that the accident took place as a Dhaka-bound engine compartment hit them from behind while they were walking on the rail tracks around 8:00pm on Sunday, leaving three people dead on the spot.

On information, top officials of railway department including Sitakunda upazila nirbahi officer visited the spot. A probe committee was formed in this regard.

Mostafiz Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Chattogram Railway Police Station confirmed the matter.
