3 feared dead, 12 buried in Malaysia landslide

International Desk: Three people are feared dead while 12 others are missing when a landslide hit a road project construction site in Jalan Paya Terubong, Relau this afternoon.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said at least four containers are believed to be buried under debris.

He said the affected area measured more than 150 metres by 60 metres.

“Based on initial report, there are more than 10 people affected,” he said.

Meanwhile, state Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said initial report he received found three people are believed to have died after tonnes of earth came tumbling down.

“Another 12 people are still buried within the rubble,” he told NSTP when contacted.

A search and rescue operation is underway.
