3 get death penalty for killing siblings in Habiganj

Habiganj Correspondent: A court in Habiganj sentenced three men to death for killing two siblings in Bahubal upazila of the district in 2008.

Additional district and sessions judge Mafroza Parvin passed the order on Sunday afternoon.

The death row convicts are Abdul Ali, 40, son of Abdus Samad, Sayed Ali, 36, son of Marfat Ali, Arzu Miah, 40, son of Abdul Malek, residents of Joshpal village in the upazila.  Among them, only Ali is now in jail while the rest two are on the run.

On August 18, 2008, the convicts picked up Nurul Ali, 10, and Ahad Ali, 8, sons of Siddik Ali of the village, from their house tempting them to take to a wedding ceremony, according to the case statement.

Later, police recovered the slain bodies of two siblings from a paddy field at Titakona village of the upazila the following day.

Then, father of the two siblings filed a murder case against three of them with Bahubal Police Station.

Following the case filing, police arrested Ali and he then confessed to the killing in court.

After examining witnesses and records, the court judge handed down the verdict.
