3 killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfights’

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: Three people including a drug traders and two human traffickers were killed in separate ‘gunfights’ in Shaymlapur area of Taknaf and Pahartoli Katapahar of the district town early Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Shahidul Islam Bhulu, 36, son of Jahir Hazi alias Mohammad Jahir, hailed from Pahartoli, Abdus Salam, 52, son of late Rahim Ali and Azim Ullah, 22, son of Abdur Rahim.
Cox’s Bazar Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Farid Uddin Khandakar said acting on secret information, police arrested listed drug trader Shahidul Islam Bhulu from Pahartoli area. Later, following his information, a police team conducted a drive to recover fire arms in the area early morning.
Meanwhile, the cohorts of Bhulu opened fire aiming police which triggered the gunfight, leaving Bhulu bullet injured. Later, he was taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead. Some 400 pieces of Yaba pills, a gun, two bullets and four bullet cases were also recovered from the spot.
On the other hand, Teknaf police station OC Pradip Kumar Das said, two human traffickers named Abdus Salam and Azim Ullah were shot dead in Shamlapur area of Baharchhara union in Teknaf early this morning.
The bodies were kept at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
