‘3 quota reform demo leaders released’

Staff Correspondent: Three leaders of the recent quota reform movement who were reportedly picked up by detectives have now been released.

Hasan Al Mamun, convener of Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Forum, the leading banner of the quota reform movement, said the three leaders of their quota reform movement have been released an hour after they were picked up by detectives.

They will hold a press conference around 4:00pm to brief the details about the matter, he said.

Hasan Al Mamun alleged that plainclothes picked the three leaders up and took them to their office by a microbus while they were going towards Chankharpool after concluding a press conference on Dhaka University campus at noon.

The three leaders who were picked up are Nurul Haque Nur, Faruk Ahmed and Rashed Khan. All of them are joint conveners of the forum

Earlier at a press conference held on Dhaka University campus at noon, Bangladesh General Students' Rights Protection Council demanded withdrawal of all cases filed against the protesters during quota reform movement within two days.

Leaders of the council also threatened to wage strong movement again if their demand would not met within the stipulated time.

On April 11, four cases were filed against unnamed accused following the clash and vandalism in DU camps and its VC’s house during the demonstration for the reformation of quota system in government jobs.
