3-tier security measures to remain during nat’l polls

Staff Correspondent: The Election Commission (EC) has adopted a three-tier security measures to maintain law and order situation in the country during the 11th parliamentary elections slated for December 30.
The decision was taken at a meeting held between the EC and members of law enforcement agencies at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon on Thursday.
Army personnel will work as striking force from December 24 to January 1 across the country. A small-size team consisting of army members will be sent to every district to maintain the law and order situation, according to the meeting.
It was also mentioned in the meeting that army and navy members will be deployed as striking force outside the polling centres. Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), coast guards and armed police will patrol the polling areas as the mobile and striking force.
Altogether, more than six lakh members of the law enforcement agencies will be deployed across the country to maintain the law and order situation, a source at the EC said.
