37 killed in flood, nearly 33 lakh incur losses

Secretariat Correspondent: At least 37 people died and 32,87,000 incurred losses in floods hit 21 districts across the country. 1,72,217 hectors of land damaged while some 7,52,000 families incurred losses partially.

Md Golam Mostafa, Additional Secretary of Disaster Management and Relief Ministery, told this to the reporters at Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday.

He said at least 4,11,000 people took shelters in  1,599 shelter houses opened in the flood affected areas.

Government distributed 3,250 metric tons of rice as relief among flood affected people since August 9. Besides, Tk 1,32,000 were given to them while 16,000 packets of dried food were distributed among them, he added.

Local administration has already been directed to stand by the flood affected people cordially to overcome the miseries. Hope, there will be no crisis as we have taken all measures to face the it, he said.

In reply to a query, he said if any flood affected person did not yet get relief, he/she is asked to contact UP chairman and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) for securing assistance.
