Staff Correspondent, Chittagong: At least 40 shops were gutted, as a fire broke out in the city's Nayabazar area of Patenga in the district on Saturday.
Sources said that the fire broke out from electric short-circuit at a shop the area this morning. The fire spread fast engulfing 40 shops of different items.
On information, four vehicles of two fire units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control.
Damages in the fire were estimated at around Tk 10 lakh.
Chittagong fire service department Agrabad Station officer Prohlad Kumar Singh confirmed the matter.
