400 Rohingya children born in Bangladesh

Secretariat Correspondent: Of those Rohingyas who entered Bangladesh to escape genocide in Myanmar, there are 16,000 to 18,000 pregnant Rohingya women.

So far, 400 babies have been born in the camp set up for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.

State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Jahid Malek came up with the information while addressing a press conference organised on the occasion of an agreement signing ceremony regarding financial assistance for Rohingya refugees with the World Bank at the secretariat on Monday.

At present, nearly 5 lakh Rohingya people have entered Bangladesh to escape violence in Myanmar's Rakhine state. Around 40 mobile teams are working to provide treatment to the Rohingyas who are suffering from different health problems. The mobile teams are distributing eight to ten items of medicines among them, said Jahid Malek.

Of the total Rohingyas sheltered in Bangladesh, the number of Rohingya children is about 2,50,000, he added.
