5 missing in Buriganga trawler capsize

Staff Correspondent, Narayanganj: At least five people went missing as a trawler carrying them capsized in Buriganga River in Fatullah of Narayanganj after colliding with a sand-laden water vessel.

The incident took place around 9:30pm on Sunday. Following the incident, 15 more people also received injuries. Divers from Fire service and naval police are conducting rescue operation.

Inspector Md Shamsur Rahman, In-charge of Naval police station in Narayanganj’s Pagla said, the trawler carrying around 51 people, sank in the river after it collided with a sand-carrying water vessel around 9:30pm. Meanwhile, most of the people managed to swim ashore but five remained missing.

Abdulla Al Arefin, Deputy Assistant Director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defense said, the rescue operation is still underway. Initiative is going on to recover the capsized trawler also.
