5,20,000 people enter poverty line again

Staff Correspondent: Some 5,20,000 people who earlier overcame poverty have newly entered the poverty line due to price hike of rice in the current year, according to a research conducted by South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM).

SANEM's executive director Dr. Selim Raihan came up with the disclosure at "Quarterly Review on Bangladesh Economy" held at the capital's BRAC Centre Inn on Saturday.

The SANEM research report said, price of rice has increased despite the huge import. That's why, it is feared to rise poverty rate by 32 percent this year.
