543 aspirants file appeals with EC in 3 days

Staff Correspondent: A total of 543 candidates aspiring to contest the 11^th parliamentary election have filed appeals with the Election Commission (EC) against the rejection of their nomination papers by the returning officers during scrutiny.

EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed made the disclosure at a press briefing at Nirbachon Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon on Wednesday evening.

Of them, 222 aspirants filed the appeals with the commission today, the last day for filing appeals with the EC, Helal Uddin Ahmed said.

Earlier, 84 aspirants filed the appeals with the EC on December 3 and 237 aspirants on December 4, he said.

The EC secretary said the appeals will be settled within next three days.

The hearing on the appeals will be started around 10:00am tomorrow, he said.

On the first day (December 6) of the hearing, the commission will dispose the appeals of 160 aspirants while 149 appeals on the second day (December 7) and the rest 232 appeals on the last day (December 8), Helal Uddin added.
