56,000 volunteers ready to tackle cyclone Fani

Staff Correspondent: Cyclonic storm Fani is heading towards Bangladesh. Some 56,000 volunteers have been kept ready in 19 coastal districts to minimize damages to people and property following severe cyclonic storm Fani, said Sajeeb Wazed Joy.

Prime Minister's ICT Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy in his verified Facebook page on Friday night posted a status in this regard.

Highlighting several steps taken by the government, he said, 56,000 volunteers and 3,868 cyclone shelters were kept ready. The authority opened control room in 19 coastal districts to monitor overall situation during the storm.

As part of the preparations, 200 tonnes of rice, 41,000 packets of dry food and cash Tk 5 lakh have been sent to the deputy commissioners of each of the districts.

Sajeeb Wazed Joy also urged all to stay alert and help the authority providing correct information.
