6 new species of paddy, wheat revealed

Secretariat Correspondent: Six new varieties of corns (paddy and wheat) have been invented.

Agriculture ministry sources said that National Seed Board (NSB) in its 99th meeting approved the new species. The meeting took place at the ministry on Jun 19 with agriculture secretary Md Nasiruddin in chair.

Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) invented the new high-yielding varieties of paddy --BRRI Dhan-90, BRRI Dhan-91, BRRI Dhan-92. Bangladesh Atomic Research Institute invented Bina Dhan-22. Rajshahi University invented a new species Rabi Dhan-1 while Bangladesh wheat and maize research institute or WMRI invented Gom-11.
