Senior Correspondent: Around 70 lakh of people die every year in the world due to direct use of tobacco while 9 lakh of people die due to second hand smoking of tobacco.
Additional secretary Bablu Kumar Saha made the assertion while addressing a press conference at health ministry on the occasion of tobacco free day 2019 on Wednesday.
He said, According to the report of world health organization in 2004, 12 lakh people from Bangladesh suffer from eight deadly diseases. Of them 3.82 lakh of people became physically disabled.
Around 1.61 lakh of people died from the tobacco-related diseases in Bangladesh, said Tobacco atlas report.
