71 Santals get anticipatory bail

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has granted anticipatory bail to 71 Santal people in four cases filed by police and Rangpur Sugar Mills Authority over the incident of clash in Gobindaganj of Gaibandha.
A HC bench headed by Justice Obaidul Hassan passed the order on Sunday.
Advocate Abu Obaidur Rahman accompanied by Advocate Samiul Alam Sarker and Mahzabin Rabbani moved for the petitioners in the court.
On November 6, a tripartite clash broke out between the Santals, factory staff and police over the eviction.
The clash left three Santal men dead and 20 others, including nine policemen, injured.
After the eviction, the sugar mills authorities harvested their cultivated paddy and handed it over to the Santals following a High Court order.
Since then, the Santals evicted from the Sahebganj-Bagda sugarcane farm have been staying in Joypur and Madarpur villages in tents.
