Staff Correspondent, Chittagong: A district court on Monday (July 24) sentenced eight people to life term imprisonment in a case filed over killing a young lady named Marzina Begum.
Chittagong 5th Additional district & Sessions Judge Nur-e-Alam passed the order.
The court also fined Tk20,000 each of the convicts and ordered to serve one month more in jail, in default to pay the amount.
The convicts are- Abu Taher, Sobahan, Mosharraf Hossain, Nur Hossain, Selim, Rafiq Master, Jafar Ahmed and Abdul Jabbar.
Lokman Hossain Chowdhury, additional district public prosecutor (PP) confirmed the matter to media.
The case statement said that following a land dispute, the convicts set fire in the house of Ali Akbar in 2002. Meanwhile, Marzina Begum and some others got stuck in the burning house. Later, locals rescued them and sent to local hospital where Marzina died under treatment.
